If you see a typo in one of your years' old posts, do you feel compelled to correct it?

Hell yes. It can be twenty five years old, or older, and the itch to fix crawls inside my skin. It's worse with books.

Only if I'm editing it to do something else. Although that may change now that I'm DW-only.

Linkrot. *facepalm*

I've been posting stuff for 9 years. People have deleted websites, taken them private, or changed the link in some non-obvious way. Netiquette and fair use sometimes lead to not quoting the entire article enough to illustrate my point, when I have one. (I'm still glad I quoted that entire post before I knew better back in the day; it's still side-splittingly funny. But I shouldn't have.) And linkrot there is particularly painful; there is lost context. Also, I've sometimes linked for punchline, and well. No punchline.

It was Yahoo, wasn't it, that disappeared articles after about a year.

Sometimes I'm able to find the item from other sources. Mostly it's like doing a research paper when vandals inhabit the library.

Sorry about this rant; it's a sore spot.

Oh, yes, I feel you. I just went through all my imported posts with video embeds to fix them. It's amazing how much has fallen off the internet. :(

P.S. Oh, and about disappearing articles? A few years ago I got fed up, and signed up for a caching bookmark manager service. I now keep copies of everything public I read I might want to refer to again.

I don't actually recommend the one I use, and I am considering to moving to a better regarded one, Moving is very, very hard, so try to pick well to start with.

The one I use, its search is terrible. After reporting weird-ass bugs and serious non-features to the owner/developer and discussing it with him, I've come to the conclusion that he just doesn't understand Solr, the search engine he built against, well/at all, and he's sufficiently in over his head with it that none of those problems will get fixed.

What I really want to do is run my own, but that is not a tech project I have the spoons to take on at the moment.

Always – though I often have the self control not to, if I'm really trying to get something else accomplished. I was just fixing all my old video links and I made a few passing other corrections as I did, but I was already bringing my computer to its knees with what I had open in the browser to make the video link updates, so opening addition edit tabs was not prudent, so mostly I gritted my teeth and ignored them. I may have sprained something in my soul.
