The LJ servers have been moved to Russia. 99 accounts and records have been blocked. This also means LJ is accessible to the Russian government.

Some of the people on my friends list have duplicated their LJ accounts to Dreamwidth, which has very similar code.

Here's how to make a Dreamwidth account that duplicates what you've posted to LJ, and the comments you've received. I think you'll need to duplicate your friendlist by hand for DW, and get individual permissions for non-public posts there.

Indeed, DW code was originally forked from LJ.

But what I need to know is the reverse: how to copy, from LJ to DW, the posts I put on LJ before I switched to DW and automatic cross-posting.

I've been cross-posting from DW to LJ for many years. Is there a way to avoid or merge the duplicates??

Yeah, I think it's time to turn off the lights on LJ - import all of the journal to DW, then delete the LJ part. (I seem to recall that there used to be a way to export LJ to PDF? thirteen years is a long time.)

I'm unwilling to give up on LJ completely - I still have LJ-only friends, and I don't want to erase my comment history, but the site has been fairly quiet. I'll miss it... but what I'm really missing is the community we used to have there.

I've been looking for confirmation that LJ has moved its servers to Russia and haven't found any. A geolocation site still shows www.livejournal.com as being in San Francisco. The move looks like an unfounded rumor to me so far.
