has it that the National Guard is (was?) keeping the Red Cross out of the Superdome.

I can't find that link on the Red Cross site, even though it starts off with www.redcross.org and I'm using cut and paste.

Does anyone know whether the National Guard is or was actually keeping the Red Cross out?

My guesses about the link are either that someone is putting false stuff up on the Red Cross site or that someone at the Red Cross is trying to sneak out true information or that there's just some broken html on the site.

I very much want to know whether this is true or not.

A Red Cross official said that the "Department of Homeland Security" (the Louisiana one that has responsibility for much of the response and control there now, not the Federal one) told her that they didn't want the Red Cross to try and go in because things were too unsettled and dangerous, and that they were trying to encourage people to get out of the area, not give them one more reason to stay.

The Red Cross people said they understood and agreed. The rules for deploying the Red Cross say that they can't be inserted in places that have no security or that have significant unrest.
