Email problems

Uslec (the current owner of netaxs) is still having problems with email--instead of being forwarded to my account at panix, mail to my netaxs account is only readable with mutt (I prefer pine) and some of it may be disappearing. I'll let everyone know when things are serene again at uslec, but meanwhile, you can email me at nancyL *at* panix *period* com.

I hate the idea of changing my basic email address. I've been publicizing the netaxs address for a very long time, but the current situation is making me twitch. What do you folks think of having gmail as one's primary address?

ISP's will come and go, and free accounts may be especially volatile. Having your own domain is the only really stable solution. Have you looked into making an address on nancybuttons.com your primary address?

Domains

No reason you need to use nancybuttons.com as your personal email domain (if, as below, you think of it as your work address). Once you have hosting, you should be able to add domains. For example, lebov.net seems to be free.

In our case, we started with steeds.com as our personal domain (for web pages and email addresses), and even gave accounts there to friends. Only later, once we decided to ffer web hosting, did we register steedshosting.net (http://www.steedshosting.net/) and .com. I also registered my last name .org as a domain, so family members could get firstname@lastname.org as email addresses. Since we run our own servers (now on a T1), it's perhaps a little easier for us to add domains as needed.
