Spain wasn't the only country that had its own Inquisition.

The Portuguese Inquisition was a lot more less suspicious of ex-Jews than the Spanish Inquisition was. Even of not-exactly-all-THAT-ex-Jews. To the point that, in the New World, "Portuguese" was occasionally a code word that meant "Jewish."
