How NICE can it get?

I'm horrified, but also distracted by there being an actual British agency called NICE doing a very scary experiment on people.

The experiment is free bariatric surgery for children--I'm not sure how young they're willing to go.

You know that NICE is basically that part of the NHS administration tasked with figuring out which treatments produce clinically verifiable results and which don't, and on that basis which can be funded by the NHS?

Levels of childhood obesity in the UK have shot up alarmingly over recent years, and the idea is to figure out whether this surgery actually *works*. This isn't experimental in the sense of pioneering a new treatment -- it's merely deploying it under controlled conditions to see if it's cost-effective.
