How a cat is like a psychotic roommate

[livejournal.com profile] nodogsonbeach is not a cat person, so I will note that the psychotic roommates are covered with soft a/nd/or silky fur, and they purr. This is very unfair.

[livejournal.com profile] nodogsonbeach also manages to leave out the times when the furry, psychotic roommate will pretend to be your best friend ever! in order to stay in control.

To be fair to [livejournal.com profile] nodogsonbeach, he/she does admit making the assumption that the cat is like a human.

Unfortunately, that assumption is incorrect. The cat is a furry predator who has made certain... accommodations to live with these over-sized ape humans. The cat even condescends to treat the humans (or at least the ones she lives with) as though the human were a cat. All of the feline behaviors [livejournal.com profile] nodogsonbeach describes can be reinterpreted as the cat eagerly participating in the play activities it substitutes for true hunting and wondering why the human doesn't join in.

In fact, from the cat's point of view, having a human for a roommate is like having a neurotic cat for a roommate. :-)

Nitpick: cats are prey as well as predators, or at least that's the explanation I've heard of why they tend to hide if they're lost. (This is from a book about using search dogs to find lost animals.)

As a data point, Perse would tend to hide under the nearest car if she got out of the house.

I agree that I'm also the cats' psychotic roommate.

Virtually every creature is predator as well as prey; however, the traits that [livejournal.com profile] nodogsonbeach was describing as "psychotic" were primarily predator traits.

I'm sure Perse would hide under a car if she ended up outside; Sugar has done that too. Again, that's not incompatible with their "predator" side.
