The trailer felt more Sheckleyish to me....

....crossed with generic hate of The System, but Ellison is suing because he says In Time is too much like " 'Repent, Harlequin', Said the Ticktockman", and I will say the premise is just about identical even if the feel and probably the plot are quite different.

Oh, Harlan.

If nothing else, he looks to be throwing himself on his legal sabre to save us all from a Timberlake movi -- no?

If HE got a settlement for Terminator, DF Jones should have gotten one too, he published the same year about a supercomputer taking over the world with the nukes it was given.

The story doesn't say, but I thought in cases like this it is necessary to prove not just similarity but that someone involved had read the story. That is what HE had with Terminator and GRRM didn't have with Sliders.

What's the standard of proof for someone having read a story? If Niccol was reasonably familiar with science fiction, it's extremely likely that he would have read "Repent, Harlequin".

I don't know. As I recall it, HE found a witness who said he heard James Cameron say he was ripping off two old Outer Limits episodes.

But GRRM could not find proof that Tracey Torme had read the Doorways script, even if he was working in a place where it was.
