The reason blacks in the US are mostly urban is that in general, they were driven out of small towns. There are apparently very few towns that accidentally never had black residents.

Fascinating stuff. The town I grew up in is probably in denial about this. Our town had one black family (out of 7500 people), but the next town over was majority black. We used to live in Carroll County, where every surrounding Maryland county had significant black populations yet ours was under 1%. You don't get proportions like this by accident.
