A grand old word
Mar. 10th, 2009 09:45 pmI've been trying to remember a law I'd heard about-- I thought it involved a grand old word, capital punishment, and looting a country.
I didn't know which country had passed it.
When the word-- plunder-- drifted up from memory, that was enough to track the law down.
It's life imprisonment, not capital punishment.
And you don't have to loot a country to be subject to it. The amount that triggers the law is about 1.5 million dollars, which seems kind of moderate considering recent events in the US. I don't know what the exchange rate was when the law was passed, and in any case, it only applies to the Phillipines.
It only applies to government officials.
Anyway, here's the law.
