May. 23rd, 2010 07:37 amCurrent administration declares that foreigners have no rights, if we feel like it. More links.
This kind of thing can't happen to you if you're a native-born American, so far.
War comes home.....
Short version, though I'd say the video is a pretty worthwhile eight and a half minutes-- SWAT teams are being used when there's no reason to expect violence. Members of the public get killed, dogs get killed, police get killed. (That last was a middle of the night sudden drug raid, but may not have been a SWAT team.)
A lot of this is fueled by military surplus being available for police departments, and claiming that there's a war on drugs probably contributes to the idea that collateral damage doesn't have to be taken very seriously.
This being said, actual soldiers are saying that they have to be a lot more careful in Afghanistan than US police departments are being in the US.
I'm not going to put in the obligatory "almost all the police are good people just doing their jobs". How would I know whether that's true? I will say that the vast majority of police are behaving much better than they could get away with.
