Not being a mountaineer, I don't really know. Cotton and wool are great. But Goretex is great too. Being dry is great. The high-tech tents, ropes, climbing gear, radios, boots, oxygen systems, goggles, and sunblock are DEFINITELY better. Mallory tried to climb Everest in friggin' hobnail boots.
