In a discussion of what to call science fiction that isn't hard science fiction, I found myself wondering how you can identify science fiction which is based on solid social science.

Any thoughts?

I don't bother to label subdivisions. It's rather like treating "sf" as meaning "speculative fiction", and to heck with subcategorization.

I think I've definitely used the term "social science fiction", but I'm not sure if anyone else has.
