As many years as [livejournal.com profile] gridlore's been saying this, I'm stunned to think it hasn't been a button before....

The ones with the 'the' in them just do not parse at all for me.

"There's too much blood in the caffeine" sounds as if Dracula made the coffee this morning.

Yes: like a recipe rather than plasma concentration of a medication. ("There's too much cinnamon in the ice cream.")

That's the version I've always heard.

I was thinking that the ones without the personalization sound as if Buffy were complaining.

I suspect it's a regional variation. They parse perfectly well for me, though the "my" versions are the way I'd say it.

That's my feeling, but one customer has a strong preference for "caffeine" rather than "caffeine stream" and says that people have really liked the custom button she's worn with that version.

That's why I put the survey up--I think "caffeine stream" is much clearer.

And I think I like it better than "caffeine stream"--you don't just have a caffeine stream, it's a more complex and pervasive system.

I wonder if it's a regional thing--where are her writers from? I gather the other characters would use the personalization.

Alternatively, it's a slightly dissociated way of talking, and I can imagine Buffy thinking of her body as a tool.

I've heard ...my caffeine delivery system and ...my caffeine stream. Caffeine system sounds a bit odd to me.

How does "There's too much blood in my hemoglobin" strike you?

It's not reversible, though. "Too much blood in my caffeine stream" reverses the more ordinary "too much caffeine in my bloodstream," but people don't usually talk about their "blood system."
