How the Republican party has alienated maybe a million gay voters in order to attract an estimated four million evangelical people who didn't vote last time. (I have no idea how you compute the odds for getting non-voters to show up--it seems as though it would be easier to get votes from people who are already in the habit of voting.)

For more, listen to the Big Tent show from This American Life--it looks as though a great many Republicans are less committed against gay marriage than you might think.

Alienate one to get four? Do the math.

Freakin' hate the hatemongers, though.

Elections are fuzzy math--no doubt a result of dealing with mammals instead of reptiles.

They aren't going to lose *every* gay who voted for them. They aren't going to get *all* those non-voting evangelicals to vote. They can't tell if they're going to alienate substantial numbers of non-gays.

Well, they've certainly alienated me. Registered Republican, remember?
