It wouldn't surprise me a bit if Oprah ends up running for office herself.

Not this year, I think; it'd distract and she knows it. But using a public campaign position in support of someone else's candidacy as a route to getting taken political-serious (instead of celebrity-serious) is a fairly traditional tactic, so maybe two years later or something.

This year seems unlikely--aside from distraction, I doubt there's enough time.

That'd be a step down for her.

This was my snarky instinct as well. ;)

She has name recognition; broad appeal across ethnicity and class; strong support from women; a brain; demonstrated knowledge, opinion, and theories on policy issues foreing and domestic. So, valid candidacy if she chooses that route. Not this time, but mayhap in the future. Guess we'll see.

I don't know a lot about her, but there's one thing that impresses me very much. Her career took off when she was an ordinary talk show host, heard the complaints about talk showing battening on grotesquery, and decided to have a talk show which focused on the positive.

In other words, instead of just feeling insulted and just continuing what she was doing, she figured out something which worked better. This is a rare and valuable trait.

What party do you think she'd align herself with?

What parties do you think we'll have in 2010?

American history has been running weird enough lately that I wouldn't exclude the possibility of her starting a third party.
