Gillian, the smaller cat here, has finally, at the age of about 8, decided that she's willing to be picked up and held (ok, not just willing-- frequently insistent) rather than politely preferring to be put back on the ground as soon as possible. I don't know if I've gotten better at holding her or she simply changed her mind.

She'd rather have some support from below, but will spend some time bonelessly draped over my arm.

And I have naturally curly hair.

Our smaller cat, Erica, took until she was 10, about 6 years after we met, to allow me to be in the same room with her. Dglenn got her used to being picked up and handled politely last year. Now she walks into the kitchen whether I'm cooking or not and wants to be picked up. And purrs while I'm doing it. She's now somewhere between 14 and 17. Latecomer to kitty normalcy.

Our unknown age cat was acquired by dint of his attention slut jump-unbidden-into-your-lap attitude ("Pull those covers down and PET ME! Is that an exposed idle hand?", especialy his tendency to walk in front one and roll over on his back suddenly demanding that his fluffy long-haired belly be rubbed.

And I have naturally curly hair.

Hmm. We need a larger sample.

Thanks for the feline anecdotes, but [livejournal.com profile] osewalrus's reply is a clue.
