Night Watch
Mar. 12th, 2006 07:37 amOn Brad Hicks' recommendation, I saw it last night, and while I discovered that I wasn't entirely in the mood for a horror movie, it's quite an excellent one. The special effects are modest by modern standards, but they're adequate--and special effects don't need to be overwhelming when the script and acting are that good.
The special effects in the subtitle were effective, but I was expecting more. I bet that
this is only a start for use of the full range of flexible typography and animation in subtitles.
One of the nice touches is that the vampires are just as frightened as the vampire hunters--there's *some* difference between the good guys and the bad guys, but most of the time it isn't huge. And all the magical folks spend most of their time just looking like people--this saves on make-up and sfx, but it also adds to the eerieness.
