Geekophobia, the real story
Apr. 15th, 2006 08:40 amA while ago, there was a post mildly twitting a fellow for blatant public Star Trek fantacizing. People got rather more worked up about it at Metafilter.
If homophobia is at least somewhat based in the fear of one's own homosexual impulses, maybe people who feel a need to insult those with an undignified hobbies really want to photoshop their faces into Star Trek stills?
I've been hearing snarkiness about fans with Spock ears for years--even from other media fans (though not as much recently), and I've never been able to figure out what the big deal is. It's about as harmless a behavior as I can think of.
