A quote for Madfilkentist

This was at the beginning of the first issue (1989) of Mondo 2000, a magazine about the information age with very pretty graphics that gave this quote a two page spread-- I think the quote is from Marshall McLuhan, but googling doesn't turn up a source.
This brought the quote to mind.

agrumer points out in comments that the magazine may well have been Wired, and if so the quote was a little different, and while there was a two-page spread with a quote, it may have been a different quote.
