"The Thing in the Cellar" (the short story, I hope, not the thing) reminded me.... long ago, I saw a mention of Delany teaching a course about therapy in sf, and I've never seen a description of the course, or even a reading list.
So, sf (including horror) that has therapy as a major element? "The Yellow Wallpaper", More Than Human, "The Other Man", "And Now the News", some of Henderson's stories about The People (why not include sfnal and magical therapy?), A Civil Campaign, that Purdom story about perfect therapy that's almost impossible to afford.....
I have no conclusions or even trends to offer, but it wouldn't surprise me if sf tends to mirror popular ideas about therapy.
