Good discussion of a joke about violent rape.

The only conclusions I've drawn are that finding something funny or not is an objective fact, and you really can't tell what an author was thinking by looking at their work.

it is a good discussion - i never realized that the immense feeling of safety some men have (known in feminist theory circles as part of their 'privilege' has seeped over into their thinking of any (in their minds clearly - other) man who would resort to rape as, basically - a big old dummy head

apparently THAT is the source of humor in some of the rape jokes - that and raw incongruities like the 'lack of side effects' line in the joke discussed

I even laughed - a, basically, startled, barking sort of laugh, but a laugh, and the first one I can recall ever having in response to an out and out rape joke, and that of course was embarrassing, even alone at my computer, and embarrassed people tend to laugh more, especially if people around them are laughing - easy work for comics, more polish on the patriarchy, and most of them don't even know they are doing it < sigh > / < rage ? > / < sigh >

Then I trolled someone based on their username 'cause I was pissed off. OPPS!!!

at least to a person who discusses years of practicing the necessary deadpan, and working on the right amount of guilt to evoke from the audience - I think he was also the originator

The point I was heading towards is that flemco had been date raped, and wrote the joke because that kind of humor makes it easier for them to deal with it.
