Now that the sound for my computer is working (I was talking with fixx, he suggesting wiping the connector, it turned out it was plugged into the wrong place), I'm interested in listening to the cool stuff I've been missing.

I've become a big fan of The Decemberists, whose primary songwriter (Colin Meloy) I'm fond of describing as the most literate songsmith since Richard Thompson (another favorite). Pretty much anything by them is superior material, but my favorite of theirs is still the penultimate song on their penultimate (to this point) album (not counting a recent EP): "The Mariner's Revenge Song" from Picaresque.
