Material online can seem ephemeral. Here's a welcome example of the opposite. Earlier this year a site called Deletionpedia launched with the sole aim of preserving all the pages deleted from Wikipedia.

Most deleted Wikipedia articles are much less important even than a list of movies with monkeys without Bedtime for Bonzo (some would say it had two); or an article slightly exaggerating Palin's connection with the Alaska Independence Party (and where's John C. Calhoun?). (Senator Benton of Missouri called him "John Catiline Calhoun"; when taken to task for this, he replied: "I could not be so unjust to the brave Roman conspirator as to compare the cowardly American plotter to him.")

Most delenda are speedy deleted (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:CSD) for being gibberish, or "[my classmate] picks her nose." The rest of the deletion proposals are worth discussing, but these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2008_December_27) are today's deletion proposals, which mostly fall into spam, garage bands, and stuff that will be kept. My sympathies to Deletionpedia.

I agree. It sounds about as worthy as preserving chatter on the average IRC channel.

Pedantic note: I believe Bonzo was an ape, rather than a monkey.
