fish oil for cats?

It looks as though fish oil is good for me. Might it be good for the cats (one with dry fur, one possibly depressed, one young and healthy who might as well get anything possibly useful and harmless)?

I've googled, but most of what I've found is commercial sites. What I want is either scietific studies or personal accounts on a site that isn't biased. I did see a couple of studies, but they were for specific skin conditions. There was also one statement that fish liver oil is a bad idea for cats--too much vitamin A.

When our previous cat got old, the vet had us give her something called "EFA-caps", which I think included fish oil and borage oil and I'm not sure what else. I don't recall if that was for the arthritis or the kidney problem.

fish oil is fine for cats; I've had to administer it to them in the past, as well. It's just the fish *liver* oil that causes problems. Then again, I don't like it, either :-)

Wha' happened? Someone posted a bunch of interesting links about fish oil, I was following them up, and now they're gone. They were about people rather than cats, but I liked them anyway. Please come back, all is forgiven.

At least I remember crazymeds and still had bipolarabout.com in the browser.

And it was nice to find that some of my other favorite fish--catfish and trout--are also good for omega-3.

I should also say, I can have them for you in about 10m, because I remember what my searches were for, and they'll still be marked as visited on Google when I go back. But if they got mailed to you, that'll be much easier than me doing that...

EFA is good, as redbird said. My cat's skin cleared up beautifully during a period when he was getting chicken on a regular basis from my partner. He likes sauces i make that are heavy in olive oil too, and will lick that up when i'm done.

I now give him 1/3-1/2 can of Lick Your Chops cat food 2x/day, and it's done wonders for him. He's lost weight, eats less, is more active, and his fur is so soft.
