"Things I Used to Know"-- it's actually more like "skills I used to have a reason to use"-- I bet I could still tune an old fashioned color tv if one of them crossed my path.

AAAAH! She said (Oh, treasured sentence-diagramming, that arcane and forgotten art.)!

I was introduced to sentence diagramming one week in grade 7 or 8. It made no sense then, and has made no more sense to me since. As i'm learning more about formal linguistics, i finally see its use, but still find it baffling, muddying, and incomprehensible, though i get the concept. *shudders*

P.S. Sorry that work has so interfered with our chatting. I will call this week. I miss talking regularly with you.

If one is speaking to a personified abstraction, the customary spelling is not "Oh" but "O." See, for example, Shelley's line "O world! O life! O time!" But perhaps her education included more grammar than poetry.

Slide rule.

I actually got out one of my two slide rules a number of months ago; I had mislaid my calculator and was doing some game writing that required taking cube roots, and I felt disinclined to do the successive approximations by hand. I could still use at least the basic functions.
