I was thinking that I wanted to comment to [livejournal.com profile] marykaykare's entry
about the difficulty of organizing with people who aren't communicating quickly and/or reliably, but the entry was already days old. I don't check my lj for back comments all that reliably and I don't know if other people check theirs, but I suspect that they mostly don't.

I could send an email....but then it occurred to me. I have an lj! I can move my comment into the present where it can have its brief exposure to the world!

So here it is:

I've done a little small scale organizing, and it's indistinguishable from work. As a result, I try to remember to thank people for organizing things. They tend to be surprised and grateful that anyone's noticed.

I live the organizing dream every day... well, every week, at least. My favorite is when my friends, who are apathetic about planning to begin with, just stand back and say, "I'll do whatever you want to do; I have no preference," or, even better, "I'm going to go out for the afternoon, and I'll just go along with whatever plan you come up with when I get back."

Meanwhile, there's no plan, because no one will express a goddam opinion.

It's a chronic problem. I believe caning is the answer. ;->

My LJ doesn't get a lot of foot traffic. I do get a notice from LJ with a copy of every comment made. I can awnswer the comment and have it posted by answering the email with the comment.

How is LJ notifying you of comments?

It's also useful for when you comment to someone else's journal and someone replies to that.

I would agree that for the most part there is somewhat less interest in replying to older entries. It appears that about half of people I reply to either are not notified of my reply or choose not to acknowledge replies to their older posts. Note, this is only about half. Possibly more interestingly, the more thoughtful ones do seem to be among those who do.

Due to the way notification works, different people appear to get the notices. I used to think that if person A posted an LJ entry and Person B commented, and I wrote a comment to person B, only person B was notified, but now I think maybe this is not the case and maybe they both do, but I am not clear on this.

Some of the ISPs screen LJ email (as possible SPAM I think.) I only receive about 1/2 of comment responses, and if it's a comment to a comment I put in another journal that number can be even lower.
