Just so you aren't surprised, I tend to remove people from my friends list who post physically long LJ entries without the use of "LJ cuts". "LJ cuts" refers to the hidden text replaced with red words that read, "Read More..."
To do an LJ cut where you want the visible entry to end, type [lj-cut] (replacing the [] brackets with less than "<" and greater than ">" symbols)
Then when you are done with the section you wand hidden, close with [/lj-cut] (same deal about replacing the brackets)
I also advise you to add yourself as a "friend" so that you can see how your own entries actually look to others.
