You know how waterbeds have to have heaters, or they'll suck the heat right out of you?

Soothsoft has found a way to harness this awesome power for good. They sell pillows that you fill with water-- they'll stay nice and cool for a while unless the weather is really rotten. In that case, they can be cooled farther by refrigerating them.

I'm very pleased with mine, but to be fair, the amazon reviews vary from love it to hate it.

Soothsoft has an awful website, but there seems to be a standard chillow, a slightly larger chillow (with velcro?), and a small pet-sized chillow.

I miss my waterbed because it never had a heater, which meant the miserable hot nights of 350 days a year didn't bug me as much.

Alas, when a waterbed goes bad, the mess is so spectacular I gave up having one.

Chillows are capable of leaking, but they only have about 8 cups of water to wreak havoc with.

I'm curious - if you're prone to muscle stiffness, is it cold enough to make your neck stiff?

I never did the pillow-flipping stuff until recently because I didn't used to get sweaty in my sleep. Now I do, so maybe this would be a good thing.

I think it depends on your sensitivity-- left to itself (not refrigerated), a chillow will be at room temperature.

There could be risks:

In a spot in the corner a little bag sat,
Pet chillow, Pet chillow, Pet chillow.
On a warm muggy day, it attracted the cat,
Pet chillow, Pet chillow, Pet chillow.
The kitty enjoyed the thing under its paws,
Then a leak soon resulted and you know the cause,
For it just wasn't made to withstand a cat's claws,
Pet chillow, Pet chillow, Pet chillow.

Thanks-- very charming. Fortunately, the cats here aren't destructive.

I had a waterbed until it leaked and I had a chillow until it leaked.
