There seems to be more than one kind of highly sensitive hearing-- this is casual observation in the comments, not a scientific study.

That makes sense. lizardlich and his mother can sit with a room between them and speak subvocally to most of our hearing, yet maintain a conversation between themselves. It's taken him many years to learn to speak up enough for most of us to hear him.
