Philadelphia may be keeping its Borders
Feb. 16th, 2011 06:00 pmPDF of which Borders stores are being closed.
I say "may be" because I have no idea of the long term effects of Borders' financial problems.
I'm a little surprised we're keeping it-- it's only about a mile from B&N, but maybe this just means that central Philly is a good place for big box bookstores.

Date: 2011-02-17 02:03 am (UTC)Borders has a special place in my heart. I lived in Ann Arbor and frequented the original store on State St. I always loved walking through it's signature wooden glass-paned doors. When I moved to VA years later and was lost and lonely I had this weird deja-vu of seeing those doors in a strip shopping center; I hadnt realized they'd become a chain. It felt like magic to have those doors appear there, and it gave me hope for my new life. (romanticize much?!)
glad you are getting to keep your store, at least for now.

>weeps<
I guess it also had the highest rent. The smaller Silver Spring store is apparently going to stay alive for now.

Date: 2011-02-17 10:48 am (UTC)I just have to laugh and shake my head that the list of stores closing takes five pages of small print, and they call it "right-sizing" as if they're merely optimizing the number of stores. They'd probably call suicide "breath rate adjustment."
