is any legislation which might have been influenced by the bribe ever repealed for that reason? I've never even heard of such legislation being reviewed.

It's entirely possible that this sort of thing happens now and then, but doesn't hit the news.

but that legislator can only bring the legislation to the general council of their peers, right? So if they were proposing bad ideas the rest of the council would have to be complicit in passing them? (unless fraud was also committed in misrepresenting the case or facts?)

Very interesting question. I expect never to see it discussed by actual legislators.

Suppose that it's marginally bad legislature, or subtly bad-- legislators don't have time to check every detail or sometimes even read all of proposed legislation.

Dear God, this is the first of I've thought of bribing legislators staffs, so that the reports on legislation are affected.

It would be nice if the press brought this up, or the bloggers. I'm hearing crickets.

See, that's a fundamental problem with having 500+ more or less creative workers and no management, or error checking. Or quality control.

The problem exists at smaller scales-- it's not just the US Congress.

The sf reference would be Heinlein's "Magic, Inc.".

From what I've read, Cheney and Rumsfeld used to control Bush's behavior by controlling who was allowed to make presentations to him, and in what order. They'd make sure that whatever idea they favored was presented last, by someone whose presentation style Bush would like (short, confident, friendly).
