Little red book investigation was a hoax
Dec. 24th, 2005 11:29 amOn the 17th of December, a story came out that a UMass Dartmouth student had been visited by Federal agents because he'd requested a copy of the original version of Mao's little red book through interlibrary loan. Where I hang out, the story was taken at face value, and people were seriously outraged. I found it a little surprising that the Feds still cared about communism, but I believed the story.
By the 20th, the story was looking a a little shaky, but I didn't hear about it.
Today, it turns out that the story was a hoax. Or at least, I guess it was a hoax. Link at Bruce Schneier's security blog.
With a little luck, a poll about what you folks believe about the story and the retraction will show up as my next post. I wanted to include the poll in this post, but unless I missed something, lj doesn't work that way.
