Don't buy anything from indoo.com
Oct. 27th, 2005 02:56 pmOn September 5, I ordered a copy of _A Hatful of Sky_ from indoo.com (a half.com seller) for $7.16.
They had 95% positive feedback, but I wish I'd looked at the negative feedbacks--they were for failed orders and ignored emails. Considering that half.com makes it somewhat difficult to leave negative feedback, I should have realized that 5% negative probably indicates a higher rate of unsatisfactory transactions.
At some point, well after it was due to arrive, I emailed them. No reply.
I'd pretty much written the thing off, then I got a refund for $2.25. When I emailed them about it (no insults, but I admit, no courtesy either), they said
there was a 15% restocking fee and $1.42 postage. Even with their deductions, I'm still $2.42 short.
On the one hand, it's a small amount of money. On the other, I'm feeling insulted as well as ripped off.

Is there any sort of law about online stores and customer service?

Date: 2005-10-28 08:10 pm (UTC)One of Handango's clients did the same to me and I wasn't credited
Date: 2005-10-28 10:46 am (UTC)My guess is that there are a lot of semi-legit places out there and the money they rip off is small enough not to be much of a problem, so they do it.
Amazon does have a reputation to protect so putting up a website about them being a problem and mailing the url to them or putting it in a review of the book you didn't get might get their attention.
Re: One of Handango's clients did the same to me and I wasn't credited
Date: 2005-10-28 11:41 am (UTC)This was a half.com thing--they're affiliated with Ebay. Amazon links to them, I think, but I'm not as sure that they care. I'll probably take it to Ebay, since the connection is closer. I've complained to paypal, but it could take 45 days for them to get back to me. On the other hand, paypal is in an excellent position to make life hard for indoo.com.

No one answered and I've only been able to leave nasty voicemails, but rest assured they'll be getting at least nasty voicemail a day until I get my money back or I get the correct book. If not, I have their address and if I'm ever in the New Jersey area, I'll be showing up at their door.

Date: 2009-01-23 07:09 pm (UTC)I ordered a wall calendar on January 2, 2009, thru amazon.com from a seller named allnewbooks, I received an email from indoo.com on january 5th, 2009 saying my item was shipped via media mail, their in new jersey, i'm in long island new york, you do the math it should have taken merely a few days to travel one state over lol
On January 23rd, 2009 I got this from indoo.com:
Dear Customer,
We shipped your order on 01/05/2009 via USPS media mail, we received a message from postal department saying that your package was lost in transit. We initiated a postal trace on the package. We are issuing full refund for the cost of the item and the shipping charges involved. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thank You
--Indoo.com
Notice how they claim the post office contacted them about losing the package??? I have never in my life heard such a BS story. If the post office lost it, how would they know to contact him about it? and I'm pretty sure when i fill out a tracking slip, They dont ask for your contact info. I've experienced the same complaints as all of you here who have been complaining since as far back as 2005??
I'm really curious as to how this company is still able to practice FRAUD. Better Business Bureau? WTF are they doing, Seriously?
Re: Amazing these crooks are still in business!!!!!!!!!
Date: 2009-05-30 04:06 am (UTC)I bought a book from indoo.com through www.abebooks.com on April 23, 2009. On May 7, I received the wrong book.
I contacted them on May 8 about initiating a return and indicated that I still wanted my book rather than my money back. I also asked them to confirm that they'd pay the shipping charges for me to return the book. They said yes.
I shipped the book out to them on May 11. I e-mailed them yesterday, May 28, to let them know I still hadn't received my book and to ask after the status of my return/exchange. They asked me if I had a tracking number.
Fortunately, I do. USPS delivered my package to them on May 13.
I'm asking for my money back instead of the book now - I really don't want these people to have my business. I haven't been impressed with the customer service at all (although I suppose I should feel lucky that I'm getting any response at all, given some of the other experiences I've read about here.) We'll see whether they actually process my refund or not, and if they do, whether I get the full amount I paid.
What's really frustrating is that abebooks doesn't have a feedback mechanism - all of the ratings displayed for their sellers are based on something called a "completion rate" - basically it's calculated based on all of a bookseller's transactions, minus transactions that result in a refund or return. I don't think I'll be shopping with that site again, which is a shame since I felt like I was actually helping support small booksellers by using it. Ebay it is, then.
Re: Amazing these crooks are still in business!!!!!!!!!
From:Indoo.com is useless.
Date: 2009-12-22 04:03 am (UTC)On all previous occasions, when Amazon had actually conducted the transaction, I'd never experienced a problem - everything was always delivered promptly and in good order. Only on this occasion. when Indoo was put on the case, did I experience hassles. Frankly, I don't believe Indoo ever sent this item. While they did eventually refund my money they had use of it - interest free - for over three months and gave me nothing for it.
Never again will I make a purchase from Allnewbooks or Indoo.com. It's not worth the aggravation.

Date: 2010-03-25 10:04 pm (UTC)I just don't understand why something from New Jersey is taking so long.Their package should have been one of the first one I got. And I am giving them time at least the next three mailing days.
Thank you for allowing me to vent.
