America needs a Truth and Reconciliation Commission

South Africa set up its Truth and Reconciliation Commission (and other ex-dictatorships have set up similar commissions) because if the atrocities of the previous regime and the violent wing of its opposition were handled through a regular criminal process, there would be enough potential defendants to spark a civil war.

I really really hope America doesn't need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
