I absolutely agree that cursing is a distinct neurological state-- I learned to curse when I was about 12, and using bad words feels drastically different normal language.
The link has a *lot* about both cursing and restricting cursing being ways of enforcing status. There's probably a parallel about making and forbidding loud noises.
