Citalopram (Celexa) may increase the risk of heat exhaustion. The official lists of side effects mentions excessive sweating but not heat exhaustion, but it seems reasonable excessive sweating might cause people to misjudge how much they need to drink.

That's interesting. I'm on Lexapro, another new-generation SSRI... I don't seem to have that issue, although when I tried Effexor I felt as though I were going through early menopause on even mild fall days.

Thanks for that--someone in my family takes it. I haven't noticed excessive sweating in that person, though, so maybe the family member isn't subject to the particular effect. Good to know to watch for it, though.

Oh goody. They changed me from Prozac to Celexa in March. I've always been pretty susceptible to heat.

If that's the case, people might be better off taking ecstacy. At least ecstacy has a party scene attached, while the SSRI scene isn't that inspiring - you never hear anyone say "Hey guys, we're going to an Effexor rave tonight!"
