72.3%, thinking way too kindly of American parents, picked "Ellen." In fact, Ellen is #447, and Nevaeh is #150. Guess why Nevaeh is so popular. Come on, guess.

It's heaven spelled backwards, that's why.

It's also the name of a Christian rock group. And a porn star.

A friends daughter named her baby Nevaeh last week and I was dumbfounded.
She apparentlly show the look on my face and quickly explained that it is Heaven backwards ..... which seemed even more unbelievable....BACKWARDS!!

ok....open your mind, I thought....NO! I can not imagne naming a Baby nor anything else that.....Heaven backwards is Hell ... Ma I gnitteg tath thgir?

I'm glad I've got the recent comments tool, or I might have missed this. How did you happen on a year-old entry?

Would you recommend naming a baby Lleh? Retsasid? Anirtak? Ekauqhtrae?

Actually, I kind of like the last one--you could claim it was an obscure goddess and sound fairly plausible.

Seriously, I think reverse spelling can mean "lightly masked for a culture which isn't comfortable with words newly used as names" rather than "reverse the meaning".
