This "all cats hate water" thing really is a myth. I've known plenty of cats you couldn't keep out of the water, if there was any available for them to swim in.
The funniest example was a Maine Coon an ex-roommate of mine owned who thought he hated water. Then, when she was at a way, way too hot camping trip and worried about his health, she literally dragged him at the end of his leash into the lake, claws scrabbling the whole way. Then the cat discovered that it could swim. From then on, you couldn't pour a bath with the door open without the cat wanting to jump in.
