This is an account of effective pressure againt advertisers on Will & Grace, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Desperate Housewives, Life As We Know It, South Park, The Shield, He's a Lady, and Chicago's Gay Games. The NYTimes seems worried, even though there was no mention of a direct campaign.

I've got one small, cheesy question: has this been addressed in any South Park shows?

Speaking of cheesy, Kraft has been standing up to the pressure--maybe we should all be buying some classic mac and cheese and telling them why.

AFA... Zzzzzzzz

The AFA has boycotted all sorts of companies, from Ford to Disney, and the targets of those boycotts all seem to have zero real effects from the action. The Disney effort went on for the best part of a decade, and Disney is still having the unofficial Gay Days celebration every year, and making the sorts of movies that piss off the AFA.

AFA takes credit for all sorts of things. They say "an advertiser cancelled because of us" when the company just decided that they'd saturated the viewership of one show, or that the show wasn't delivering the audience demographics they needed.

If you boycott enough folks for long enough, sooner or later *something* will happen that you can take credit for.

Thanks for the reassurance. It's possible that I spend too much time reading blogs that view with alarm. Is anyone publicizing how little those threatened boycotts mean?

...and in the newspaper yesterday, there was a nice big story about how Procter and Gamble was going to cut TV advertising by a large amount, across the board.

The boycott did what it always did. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

It's not worth reporting on a day-to-day basis, but a multi-year overview, especially right after a big threat, would be a good article.
