Playing with food
Nov. 2nd, 2005 02:04 pmMade a thing for lunch that worked out pretty well. I had some leftover rice (half wild, half brown basmati). I was planning to fry it up with some eggs and poked around the spices to see what looked interesting. Lavender qualified, and some saffron to go with it seemed reasonable. I wasn't sure about including corn meal, but it was just sitting there looking at me.
So I mixed 3 eggs, some cream, enough lavender to sit on top of the eggs and get things dusty when I mixed them, a little saffron, and then a big heaping tablespoon of corn meal. I fried the rice in olive oil until it was hopping around and seemed as though it had probably been fried enough, then I poured the egg mixture (which had been moved somewhat doughward by the cornmeal) into the pan and mixed it around (all frying at a fairly high heat) until it was cooked.
It was pretty pleasant, and far and away the sweetest thing I've ever eaten which had no sweeteners or fruit in it.
