I've got a sore throat, some fever, and occasional mild earaches. Mostly, it hurts to swallow. My voice is pretty much ok (or at least usable), but I'm not pushing it. I'm beginning to think that some of the feeling like crap is from not enough food and water, so I'm going to be more careful about that.

Has anyone else had the same (or similar) crud, and if so, how long did it last? Any recommendations for treatment? Weirdly enough, I've gotten some moderately good results from massaging my ears (a suggestion from _The Healer Within_ by Jahnke--it's just a matter of massaging them until they feel warm and sensitive).

Take care of yourself. I know two arisia attendees who have since been diagnosed with strep.

If it's the same crud I've got/had, it drags on and on; major symptom is exhaustion. The sore throat can be alleviated with a spoonful of honey -- hold it in your mouth until it warms up and then swallow it slowly so it coats your esophagus.

(I take a long time getting over things in general; the person who gave it to me had about a week of misery and peripheral exhaustion beyond that.)

I had a sore throat Sunday morning, but it wasn't bad enough to check if I had a fever. It was gone by Tuesday morning (the 16 hours of sleep between probably helped). And they said on the news that 20% of Texans currently have cold or flu symptoms.

Does anyone have a link to the medical study that found OTC cough medicines gave no benefit over placebos? (A conclusion I reached a couple years ago.) I'd really like to know just what they found to use as a placebo.

This sounds like the multi-sympton Crud which is making the rounds of the Northeast. I got my first symptoms ten days ago and am almost recovered (still a bit of a cough, but nothing much). I hope it's not strep.

Definitely not strep, at least if the on-line description I've read is correct. Strep is supposed to not include upper respiratory symptoms, and I've been doing a fair amount of both productive and non-productive coughing, not to mention one sneeze which was enough to prove that the cheap tissues which are quite good enough for wiping pen points should not be brought near anything with live skin on it.

In any case I'm feeling quite a bit better, and it looks as though it's a one-week crud.
