I heard something on NPR the other week about this, and their guest said that the people who went around stirring up all this furor were using a briefing book sort of thing. It included the 12 cartoons, but also included additional cartoons which had not been published in the same place. These are additional cartoons were far worse than the real ones, and the book wasn't terribly clear about the differences between the two groups.

I've been wondering why there hasn't been more mention of this. Was this guy just a flake or liar, or what?

has the same story--there were three cartoons added by the Danish imams who went to the Middle East about the Danish cartoons.

I'd heard about the three added cartoons a while ago though not the 43 page briefing book.

The Wikipedia shouldn't be considered definitive, of course.
