Protecting the election against terrorism

Why not just encourage write-in votes? It's an existing system (though it would be no small thing to expand it) and the places where the votes are counted have to be fewer and easier to protect than polls are.

I was just thinking "why have an Election Day. Many people already have trouble fitting in time to vote in a busy work schedule. Why not give people a week to cast their ballots before the counting. That should be sufficient for any emergency and enable more people to vote.

That makes a lot of sense to me. If a week is too much, a long weekend should cover most of the problem.

The conspiracy type people say we won't have to worry about voting. Bush will declare marshal law, suspend our rights and make himself president for life.

There are days that it seems like he just might do it. Patriot Act strikes me as a move in that direction.

I don't subcribe to the theory if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about.

Agreed. Imho, governments can make anytning illegal. *Anything*. And their punishments aren't limited to people who've broken the rules.
