Is there any convenient way of searching my flist posts? If I remember there was something I wanted to read but not who wrote it, it's a pain to have to search back page by page to find it.

Date: 2006-05-12 01:33 pm (UTC)I go to
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en
and check all the options for the most inclusive range.
I put nancylebov.livejournal.com in the "Domain" text box and "Captain" in the "with all of the words" text box.
This gets me one hit back.
http://nancylebov.livejournal.com/86542.html
A legitimate one, but I know there's been at least one more comment from me, where I recommended a gadget for taping phone calls.
But I recalled something I've noticed before. Google doesn't seem to like domain names that go "deeper" (or whatever the proper term is) than the basic domain.
So I tried just putting in 'livejournal.com' for "Domain" and 'nancylebov captain' (without the quotes) in the "with all of the words" text box.
This gives back 63 results, with the phone recording one on top. Some are from usage of "Captain" not involving me, of course.
Trying again, the same, except "nancylebov" in the "with all of the words" text box and "captain button" in the "with the exact phrase" text box. This gives 8 hits, all of which look legitimate.

Date: 2006-05-12 02:02 pm (UTC)However, I meant to ask a harder question, though now that I've looked at it, I asked a different question.[1] I'm not just trying to search my lj, though it's nice to know how to do it now.
I want to search my friendslist posts. It's a long friendslist, and it's a pain to page back through even a few days' worth of it. Sometime in the past week, someone wrote a long post about happiness and about how there's no sure way of achieving it, so it's important not to beat yourself up when you do things right and it doesn't work. "Happiness" would be a good enough keyword.
[1] I had a pretty bad stomach crud (food poisoning?) Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm just about ok now, but as for the middle of the week, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Oops, even worse, it says "fidelioscabinet" (and any subsequent words) was ignored because we limit queries to 32 words.
So one would need to construct a second, third, or fourth Google URL for the friends later in the alphabet.
(You can probably figure out ways to refine this search to better job on looking for what you need.)
