1920s mountaineering garb is mostly better than modern hightech stuff. It's easier to move in clothes which are tailored to fit you, and the natural fibers are warmer and less stinky.

Not being a mountaineer, I don't really know. Cotton and wool are great. But Goretex is great too. Being dry is great. The high-tech tents, ropes, climbing gear, radios, boots, oxygen systems, goggles, and sunblock are DEFINITELY better. Mallory tried to climb Everest in friggin' hobnail boots.
